FOX’s new music drama Empire premiered this week and viewers were introduced to the Lyon family and the complicated lives they lead, centered around music mogul patriarch, Lucious (played by Terrence Howard). Lucious discovers he has a serious illness, meaning he’ll have to figure out which of his three sons will inherit his music empire. Trai Byers stars as oldest son Andre and gets a shirtless scene during the pilot episode, alongside his character’s wife. Jussie Smollett plays middle child, Jamal, a talented musician with a tenuous relationship with his father due to Lucious’ issues with Jamal being gay. The first episode also introduces Rafael de la Fuente as Michael, Jamal’s live-in boyfriend, who appears in a tank top for his first scene.
